A brilliant all-round performance by skipper Mehrab Hossain Jr was not enough for the Bangladesh Cricket
Academy to avoid a defeat against their Pakistani counterpart in the final of Academy Cup Tri-nation Tournament at the BKSP on Monday.
Pakistan Academy won the trophy with a narrow five-run win after the hosts were all out for 232 in 48.5 overs in reply to their 237.
Mehrab was the last batsmen to be out for 75 runs after putting up brave resistance in the last wicket stand.
Bangladesh Academy had lost nine wickets for 181 runs before Mehrab and Kamrul Hasan put together 51 runs raising the hopes of a victory.
Junaed Siddique was the other significant contributor to the hosts’ total with the bat making 69 runs.
Eralier, Meharb took four wickets for 57 runs while Mahmudullah Riyad picked up five wickets for 42 to bundle Pakistan out for a modest 237 runs.
Afaq Alam made highest 55 for the visitors. Khalid Latif scored 31.
Meharb was adjudged the man-of-the-match and man-of-the-tournament.
Sri Lanka Academy were the other side in the competition.
