Hamid Karzai may visit Bangladesh

UNB, Dhaka: Afghan President Hamid Karzai has the possibility to visit Bangladesh, Foreign Affairs Adviser Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said Tuesday.

Talking to reporters after a meeting with new Afghan Ambassador to Bangladesh Ahmad Karim Nawabi, the Adviser said skilled Bangladeshi manpower could participate in the reconstruction of Afghanis-tan.

He said President Hamid Karzai and Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed held very useful bilateral talks on the sidelines of the 14th SAARC Summit in New Delhi.

During the meeting, they had discussed the possibility of a visit by President Karzai to Bangladesh as well as possible participation of skilled Bangladeshi manpower in the reconstruction
of Afghanistan, Chowdhury said.

The Foreign Ministry is working on the follow-up to the Fakhruddin-Karzai talks, which will include fixing dates for the visit by the Afghan President to Bangladesh.
Ambassador Nawabi said Bangladesh and Afghanistan are very close and friendly and the discussion with the Adviser focused on how to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation.
