National dance festival gives stress on development of dance

   Organised by the Bangladesh Dance Artists Association, the festival was inaugurated by Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed while the president of the association Rahiza Khanam Jhunu chaired the event.

   The speakers emphasised the development of dance across the country and hoped that the government would help in this field. They also demanded the opening of the auditorium of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy soon which is built for dance and music department. They also proposed that the auditorium be named after the noted dancer GA Mannan.

   The award recipients in their speech said that they felt honoured. They also felt that the awards had increased their responsibility. They also laid emphasis on the recognition of the dancers who live outside Dhaka.

   The inaugural session was followed by presentation of dance by the different dance groups.

   This weeklong festival will also take place at all the divisional headquarters and three district headquarters.

   For their respective contribution to the development of the country's dance culture, the organisers honoured Selina Haque, Sohel Rahman, Munmun Ahmed and Dr Soma Mumtaj with the award titled 'Bulbul Chowdhury Smriti Sanmanana Padak' for this year.

   The organisers also gave the 'GA Mannan Smriti Sanmanana Padak' to Mohammad Ilias Haider, Reshma Firoz of Chittagong, Nilufar Begum of Mymensingh and Anita Singha of Sylhet.

   For this year, the award titled Gouhar Jamil Smriti Sanmanana Padak was given to Mahfuzur Rahman, Khaza Hossain Ahmed of Khulna, Siraji Serniyabat of Barisal and Namita Kundu of Faridpur.

   The festival was held at Zia Auditorium in Khulna on April 24 and it was held at Saifur Rahman Auditorium in Sylhet and at the Mahatma Ashwani Kumar Dutta Auditorium in Barisal on April 25.

   Today, on April 26, the organisers will arrange the festival at the District Council auditorium in Rajshahi and District Shilpakala Academy auditorium in Mymensingh.

   The festival will take place at Jasimuddin Auditorium in Faridpur and District Shilpakala Academy auditorium in Bogra on April 27.

   It will be held at the auditorium of the Theatre Institute in Chittagong on April 28. Everyday the programmes of the festival will begin at 6:30pm.
   
The concluding ceremony of the festival will be held on April 29 at 6:30pm at the National Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The day will also be celebrated as World Dance Day.
