An annual report of Bangla Academy for 2006-2007 said it published 76 new books, 10 journals and 16 reprints, three-time higher than the previous year.

During 2005-2006, the academy had published 21 new books and four journals, it added.

Out of 76 new books published during 2006-07, 20 books fall to the category of literature, followed by 6 of history, 5 of philosophy, 5 of drama and 6 of other subjects, the report said.

The rest 32 books are written on various subjects ranging from poetry to political science, it added.

The dictionaries topped the list of reprint books, the report said.

Director General of Bangla Director Syed Mohammad Shahed said despite limitations, the academy is continuing efforts to carry out its publication and research activities.

About the upcoming book fair, Syed Shahed said the academy placed proposals before the concerned authority for making arrangement of eight entry points instead of two for the
convenience of the visitors and buyers.

He said from this year 'Lekha,' will be published as a regular quarterly magazine instead of monthly.
