Euro-Bangla fusion recipe competition held

Wednesday, 05.09.2007, 08:13am (GMT+6)

The grand final of the Euro-BangIa Fusion Recipe Competition took place on Sunday at the Tommy Miah Institute of Hospitality Management with six finalists preparing dishes designed to capture the flavours and culinary traditions of Bangladesh and Europe, said a press release.

The competition was jointly organized by the European Commission, the Tommy Miah Institute and the National Hotel and Tourism Training Institute, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, as part of the European Union’s cultural week 2007.

A diverse array of dishes was prepared for tasting and judgment by a distinguished panel including several EU Ambassadors. The winners will be announced on 12th May and the winning dish will be served at the EU’s traditional Europe Day reception.

The Head of Delegation of the European Commission, Dr Stefan Frowein, stated: “I am delighted that this competition has provided the opportunity to showcase the culinary talents of young students from these two respected Institutions.

With new international hotels opening in Dhaka, the opportunities available to young people in the hospitality business are growing apace.

This competition has demonstrated the potential of Bangladesh to respond to international trends in cuisine and to cater to international tastes impeccably.”
