Warid Telecom is all set to launch cellphone services in Bangladesh
Saturday, 05.05.2007, 11:05am (GMT+6)

Preparations are afoot to launch mobile phones at cheaper rates by Warid Telecom Bangladesh, a sister concern of Abu Dhabi Group.

Sources at Warid Telecom Bangladesh told Bangladeshi journalists yesterday that the new mobile phones were likely to be launched on May 7.

Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, chairman of Abu Dhabi Group, is likely to visit Bangladesh from the UAE on May 6 and formally launch the new mobile phone services on the following day, sources said.

However, the visit of Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan has become uncertain following the death of his son Sheikh Saeed bin Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan. “If the visit of Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan is cancelled, the launching of Warid Telecom’s mobile phone services may be deferred once again in that case,” a senior official of the company said.

Meanwhile, news of Warid’s launching of new mobile phone services has created strong enthusiasm among people, especially youths in Bangladesh, because of its possible offers for both post-paid and pre-paid mobile services at the lowest ever rates.

It is learnt that Warid will offer both mobile phone sets and call rates at lower prices to its subscribers in Bangladesh. The company has already installed its towers in almost all the districts of the country and also set up both sale and service centers in different parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka.

The new mobile phone operator has also completed the appointments of its manpower required initially to operate its mobile phone services in Bangladesh.
