Bangladesh seeks investment from Egypt

Dhaka, Jan 7, 2008: Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed on Monday called upon the Egyptian entrepreneurs to invest more in

Bangladesh taking the opportunity of the country’s open door policy for foreign investment, reports BSS.

The Chief Adviser made the call when the newly appointed Egyptian Ambassador to Bangladesh Fayez Noseir called on him at his office on Monday.

Dr Fakhruddin said that Bangladesh is keen to diversify cooperation in the fields of agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, trade, science, technology and tourism sectors for the benefit the people.

Laying emphasis on reactivating the Bangladesh-Egypt Joint Commission, he hoped, it will help enhance cooperation between the two countries further particularly in the fields of science and ICT sectors, agriculture and promotion and protection of trade and investment.

He expressed his optimism that the existing excellent bilateral relations between the two countries will be further strengthened in the years to come.

Referring to the Bangladeshi students and workers in Egypt, the chief adviser called upon the Egyptian government to bring more Bangladeshi students through its scholarship programmes and recruit skilled and semi-skilled Bangladeshi manpower to the country.

The Chief of Caretaker Government expressed his personal greetings to the President of Egypt Mohammed Hosni Mubarak through the ambassador.

Listing various programmes of the present caretaker government, he said, the government after assuming office has brought some basic reforms in different institutions that will ultimately help strengthen democracy.

In reply, the ambassador laid emphasis on expansion of joint venture cooperation in different sectors like trade and commerce, Science and ICT, light engineering, pharmaceuticals and agriculture.

He hoped the excellent bilateral relation that exists between the two countries will be further enhanced in the days to come.

Secretary to the CA’s office Kazi M Aminul Islam, Deputy Chief of Mission of Egyptian Embassy to Bangladesh Karim Hegazy and

Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affaires Khandakar Abdus Sattar, among others, were present on the occasion.
