Two suspected militants held at National Mausoleum in Bangladesh Thursday, 05.03.2007, 01:40am (GMT6) Two alleged terrorists were nabbed while fleeing away after firing at Ansar members employed inside the National Mausoleum at Savar yesterday morning. The arrested persons were Billal Hossain, 22, son of Mokhlesuddin of Dendabar area of Savar and Rafiqul Islam, 21, son of Shafiqul Islam of Court Chandpur area of Jhenidah district. A foreign-made pistol loaded with two rounds of bullet was recovered from their possession. Besides, three empty shells of bullets fired at the Ansar members were recovered. Later, they were handed over to RAB custody. It is learnt that the arrested persons had been indulged in various crimes, including mugging at National Mausoleum and adjacent areas over the last couple of days. Billal and Rafiqul went inside the National Mausoleum at about 10:00am yesterday. Witnessing their movements, the on-duty Ansar members became suspicious and asked them to halt. Fearing that the Ansar members were going to arrest them, the alleged terrorists fired three rounds of shots from their pistol targetting the Ansar members and tried to flee away. However, chasing them from behind, the Ansar members and local people nabbed the terrorists when they tried to cross the wall. Later, they were handed over to the RAB-13 custody. The arrested persons confessed to the RAB members about their involvement in various crimes, including snatching. One of them told the RAB members that they snatched Tk 20,000 from the visitors at gunpoint during the last couple of days. Following the incident, security inside the National Mausoleum and its adjoining areas has been tightened.
