Over 600,000-get overseas employment last year: Bangladeshi FM

MYMENSINGH, Bangladesh, Jan 7 (BSS): Foreign Adviser of Bangladesh caretaker government Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said over 600,000 Bangladeshis received overseas employment in the last year due to a pragmatic manpower policy of present government.

Dr Iftekhar, who is also in-charge of the Ministry of Overseas Employment and Expatriates' Welfare, said the country earned a US $ 6.5-billion remittance during the same period and received sanction for fresh employment of 820,000 people.

He said this while exchanging views with the teachers and students of Mymensingh Technical Training Center here this morning.

Underlining the importance of upgrading the efficiency of the students, the foreign adviser said the technically skilled Bangladeshi manpower has a very high demand in foreign countries.

Dr. Iftekhar asked the students to increase their standard of technical know how, learn foreign language and acquire knowledge about information technology.

Earlier, he went round different departments of the center. Dr Iftekhar was apprised of the activities of the center by its Principal Shawkat Hossain. He expressed his satisfaction over the activities.

Director general of Manpower Training Abdul Malek and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shamsul Alam and officials of the center were present on the occasion.

Later, the foreign adviser visited Shilpacharia Joynul Abedin Archive in the town.
