DHAKA, May 5 (BSS)-The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government has decided to compensate the Bangladeshi children used as camel jockey in their country.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was singed to this effect between Bangladesh and UAE governments on April 25, an official handout said here today.

Bangladesh Home Secretary Md. Abdul Karim and the Home Secretary of UAE singed the MoU on behalf of their respective Sides.

As per the MoU, it said, Bangladeshi children who were used as camel jockey and injured from January 1,1993 to the subsequent period will be compensated US $1,000 each (equivalent to Taka 70,000).

The amount of compensation may be extended up to US $5,000 for the injured children used as camel jockey, it also said.

A total of 200 such children already returned to Bangladesh and the UAE government provided Taka 1,04,000 to each of them for their rehabilitation.
