US embassies around the world are working hard to help foreign students fulfil their goals of studying in the United States.

Now, students applying for initial-entry visas can be issued their visas up to 120 days before their academic programme start date, said a news release.

This change in policy extends the prior time limit by one month. Here in Bangladesh, the Consular section of the US embassy is also offering priority interview scheduling for students admitted to educational institutions in America.

Students should bring the following information to their visa interview: an original I-20 form provided by the school they will attend, proof of payment of the SEVIS fee, proof of their ability to pay any educational costs they are responsible for, and documented results from any standardised exams taken (for example, the TOEFL, GRE, SAT, etc)

The Consular officers may also ask the student about their choice of the particular school and programme of study, and to describe their future plans.

After a successful visa interview, a US visa can be processed in as quickly as two days. As often, a few additional weeks may be required. In some cases, processing can take several months or more.

Accordingly, the US embassy urges student applicants to schedule their interviews as soon as they have all of the required documents.

Visa interviews can be most quickly obtained at the offices of the official scheduling agent Saimon Overseas (#4A, Road #22, Gulshan 1).

Students are also encouraged to meet with counselors at the American Centre, located at House #110, Road #27 in Banani. The American Centre can also be reached by email at DhakaPA@state.gov, or by phone at 8837150-4.
